Flag Football Rules

 

  1. Games will be 2 halves of 25 minutes each, with a 3-minute halftime.
  2. Blocking and tackling are not permitted.
  3. Each offensive series will begin on the 45-yard line.
  4. The offense will have 4 downs to move the ball 10 yards for a 1st down.
  5. The ball will be placed on the 3-yard line for extra points, and every time the ball carrier is down inside the 3-yard line the ball will move back to the 3 yard line.
  6. Every offensive play will be a pass of 3 yards or more.
  7. If the ball is stripped or fumbled the ball is down at the spot.
  8. Touchdowns are worth 6 points and extra points which are passes are worth 1 point.
  9. In overtime each team will get 4 downs to score from the 15-yard line. Division 3 will get 4 downs from the 20-yard line. There is a 2-overtime limit, except in playoffs.
  10. When the referee spots the ball, the play must start within 30 seconds or it will be a delay of game.
  11. After a touchdown the defense has 10 seconds to get on the field after the ball is spotted on the 45-yard line.
  12. Offense will have 4 receivers, 1 running back (off the line of scrimmage) and 1 quarterback.
  13. Offense must have 2 receivers on each side of the ball spread out evenly using the whole field. The RB can line up anywhere in the backfield and is allowed to be in motion.
  14. Blatant offensive pick plays are not permitted. These are judgement calls by the referees.
  15. After the quarterback snaps the ball from the line of scrimmage, they will have a 4 second count by the referee to throw a pass.
  16. The ball carrier is not allowed to flag guard or stiff arm, if this happens, they will be down at the spot of infraction.
  17. Defense will consist of 6 players.
  18. Zone defense is permitted.
  19. The defense may not hold the ball carrier to remove the flag.
  20. Coaches are permitted on the field behind the offense to call plays.
  21. When on defense the coach must be on the sideline or behind the offense.
  22. All players not playing must be on the sideline.
  23. Coaches need to make sure every player has a ball thrown their way.
  24. Board members will decide any conflict or interpretation of the rules.
