NJFL Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Parent, fan and/or family:

• I will not interrupt any game or practice.

• I will not approach a coach, an organization or league representative immediately following any contest and will wait at least 24 hours before contacting them.

• I will respect and show appreciation to the volunteer coaches and officials who give their time to my child. I will respect all officials and their decisions. This is because I understand that all officials do their utmost to be impartial, provide a safe and suitable playing framework and see that the game is well played.

• I will never confront or approach a game referee or official.

• I will not question the officials bias or judgment in public nor encourage that behavior in my child.

• I will not cause any disruption for any organization in which my child plays.

• I will not use profanity, nor will I harass players, coaches, officials or other spectators.

• I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

• I will never ridicule or yell at my child, other players, coaches or officials.

• I will cheer all good plays and avoid booing opponents.

• I will show respect for my team’s opponents, because without them there would be no game.

• I will remember that my child plays football for his/her enjoyment and not mine.

• Alcohol is not allowed at ANY game.

• Smoking is prohibited at all fields. There is no smoking allowed on school ground. This includes cigarettes, marijuana, e-cigarettes, vaping, or anything else that is considered a smoking apparatus or nicotine.

• NOTE: Each organization can use their own Code of Conduct, assuming that it mirrors the league’s own. However, where there are differences, it is the process that this NJFL policy overrides for the purposes of assigning consequences for violations.

Consequences for violating the Code of Conduct or getting ejected. The organization and/or the league reserve the right to suspend indefinitely. This will be enforced by the teams Field Marshal or game officials:

1st offense:

• The parent, fan or family member will be suspended from games for 2 weeks (assuming only ejected and no physical contact or over-the-top verbal abuse took place). If ANY physical contact was made under any circumstance, ejection is for the rest of the season.

2nd offense:

• The parent, fan or family member will be suspended for the rest of the season.

Players:

• I will always follow the basic rule of Fair Play. I will respect the rules of the game, my opponents and the officials and their decisions. Everyone on the side lines will participate and I personally will maintain my self-control at all times.

• On game day, all players shall arrive at least 1 hour prior to game time for warm-ups and weigh-ins. Players shall be fully dressed and ready to go.

• On practice day, players shall arrive at least 15 minutes prior to practice start time.

• I will participate in the game and at every practice to my full ability for an illness, injury, or school event. If a player must miss a game or practice, he/she must notify their Team Mom or Coach as soon as possible.

• Scholastics shall take precedence over Football.

• Foul language towards anyone, be it teammates; coaches; officials; opponents or spectators, will not be tolerated.

• Players shall not be critical of teammates and never discuss teammate’s abilities except to encourage good team play.

• Players are responsible for their assigned equipment and must ensure that it is complete, safe, and in good condition at all times.

• Football is a Team Sport. I am on a team and I will be a TEAM player.

• I will respect all of my teammates, coaches, officials, and my competitors.

• I will always listen to my coach’s instructions.

• Players shall conduct themselves in a dignified manner at all times. Each player represents the game of football, the football association, their team and community.

• NOTE: Each organization can use their own Code of Conduct, assuming that it mirrors the league’s own. However, where there are differences, it is the process that this NJFL policy overrides for the purposes of assigning consequences for violations.
